The Derby Telegraph Sports Awards were held on Thursday the 10th of November at The Roundhouse, Derby, and Mercia Image were delighted to sponsor the event.
Everyone knows how sport is very important in many peoples lives and how it touches practically everyone’s life in one way or another. At Mercia, we believe that the lessons we learn through sport can also benefit our business lives, so we were delighted to sponsor the Young Sportswoman of the Year Award in the Sports Awards, supporting someone just about the embark on their business life.
When you think about the essence of Sportsmanship you realise that it is the dedication, determination and attitude which we should all adopt. We should strive for fair play, to show courtesy towards our colleagues and our competitors, to behave ethically with integrity and with grace in victory or defeat.
By recognising those that excel in sport due to the dedication they put in every day, we are recognising role models who can influence the future of others.
There were many influencers of sport presenting and receiving awards, including Adam Peaty and Hollie Webb, Gold Medal winners from the Rio Olympics, Ron “The Rocket” Haslam, Jack Burnell and John O’Hare all setting aspirational levels for their fellow sportsmen and women. These people all realise that supporting the future of Derbyshire sport is vital as it enables us to push the next generation of sporting talent.
The event itself was a very enjoyable night with lots of activities like stand up bingo and silent auctions. As well as a lovely 3 course meal prepared by The Roundhouse. The venue was amazing with lots of attention to detail, and we were lucky enough to have been able to print the brochure with all of the finalists’ stories and the category’s that they were nominated for.
We all thought it was an amazing experience and we would like to thank The Derby Telegraph, Champions UK plc, Derbyshire Sport and Smith Partnership for giving us the opportunity to sponsor a category in the Sports Awards as well as being the chosen brochure printer!
Finally we would like to wish Good luck moving forward to every person that was a finalist at the event. We also wish you all the best with your sporting career.
